One Day, One U

Giving Day
Get set to demonstrate your ’Canes spirit to the world!

Get ready to put your ’Canes spirit on (the) line! On Monday April 8, 2019, the University of Miami is launching a new philanthropic tradition: our first digital Giving Day. The “One Day, One U” 24-hour online and social media event will bring together alumni, students, staff, friends, and community members to give back to the University of Miami, celebrate all things U, and support our mission.

On April 8, 1925, the date on which the University of Miami officially incorporated, our founders proclaimed an unshakable confidence in the fledgling university’s monumental dream. This year’s anniversary—just six years from our centennial in 2025—offers a prime opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments and help create our new century together.

Complemented by an array of events on campus, as well as in Broward and Palm Beach counties, Giving Day will be a 24-hour digital and IRL (in real life) party. The multi-tiered UM Giving Day website will help participants easily share the event with fellow alumni, family, and friends through digital and social media channels.

The home page leaderboard will track not only overall dollars and donors generated during Giving Day, but gifts to individual schools, colleges, departments, programs, and funds. In addition to strengthening collective pride in the U, boosting alumni engagement, and galvanizing philanthropic spirit, goals for Giving Day are to raise $500,000 from 5,000 donors, including students, faculty and staff, alumni, and both longtime and new friends of the U. A series of day-long and hour-long challenges will reward winners with matching challenge funds for their selected school or program.

So mark 12:01 a.m. on April 8, 2019, on your calendar and get set to demonstrate your ’Canes spirit to the world. Support the area of the University that means the most to you on the Giving Day website. Be a social media ambassador and challenge your friends and family to support the U on Giving Day. Post about Giving Day across your social media channels using the #OneDayOneU hashtag, and share in the Giving Day fun and excitement. On this very special day, it’s truly all about the U.
