Putting rivalries aside, three Universities unite in collective fundraising efforts
The New York ’Cane Community set out to organize an event to raise funds for Hurricane Irma relief in Greater Miami. It was held at Brother Jimmies, the official game watch location for UM in Manhattan.
Then, the unexpected; teamwork came from an unsuspecting place: Florida State and Virginia Tech. The rival universities put competition aside and came together to raise donations for Hurricane relief. Both schools noticed the event on Facebook, and actively promoted it one their channels.
According to NY ’Cane Community leaders Michael Gohari and Clarissa Carlucci, the event has raised over $2500 so far and there are plans for a corporate match, to bring the total amount donated to United Way to over $5000.
