Mission

The mission of the LGBTQ ’Canes is to establish and foster mutually beneficial and enduring relationships between the University of Miami and its gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and allied alumni and current and future students.

The LGBTQ ’Canes need your support! We are currently looking for active members and to expand the leadership.

  • How do I join?

    Simply fill out this form. You can also download the UMiami App for Alumni and join our group page. You can find the LGBTQ ’Canes group after logging through Get Involved > Find Groups > Affinities & Special Interests > LGBTQ ’Canes.

  • Why should I join?

    In addition to existing alumni benefits and services, members will be kept informed of opportunities to connect and engage with fellow LGBTQ ’Canes and allies and assist with initiatives designed to enhance the experience of LGBTQ ’Canes at the U!

  • Is there a cost?

    No, members are encouraged to further the University's mission through annual giving, but donations are not required and your affiliation with the LGBTQ ’Canes is lifelong! #CaneforLife

  • In the News

    The University of Miami is set to launch the Gender and Sexuality Living Learning Community (GSS LLC) for members of the LGBTQ+ community and allied students. The aim of the program, a collaboration between the LGBTQ+ Student Center, the Gender and Sexuality Studies Program, and Housing and Residential Life, is to provide a safe space where students know they are respected for all their identities such as their gender identity and their sexual orientation.
