The UM Alumni Association proudly offers alumni an email address that lasts a lifetime.
Email Address for Life ensures that your @miami.edu email address forwards to your personal email address, as noted in CaneLink. This is a great way to show your Hurricane pride!
Before you head off on your next adventure, be sure to log in to CaneLink and add your personal email address (step-by-step instructions). Upon graduation, your UM emails will forward to your personal email address, as noted in CaneLink. Your UM email account (name@miami.edu) will become a forwarding-only account 60 days after our records indicate you are an official alumnus.
For more information about changes to IT service after graduation, please visit the My.IT site.
For more information or for technical support—available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—please contact the IT Service Desk at 305-284-6565 or help@miami.edu.
Note for Alumni that Retained Mailboxes before Fall 2023
In fall 2023, the University of Miami revised its post-graduation email policy to ensure new graduates' @miami.eduemails are forwarded to their personal email address. Alumni that retained their UM mailboxes (e.g., those that graduated before the Fall 2023 semester) will be transitioned to a forwarding-only account to align with the University's alumni email policy on November 18, 2024. This change is in alignment with best practices across higher education and essential for protecting our digital environment.
If you are an alumnus using your UM mailbox, your access to the mailbox will be removed on November 18, 2024. Before this date, alumni are being asked to add their personal email address to CaneLink so new incoming mail can be forwarded there, and export any important past UM emails before the mailbox is closed. On November 18, when the @miami.edu mailbox is closed, alumni will no longer have access to the contents within the mailbox.
