How much does the plate cost?
The University of Miami specialty plate costs $30 plus annual registration fees and taxes.
How can I get my plate?
You can choose to purchase your U plate online or in person. If you choose to purchase your plate online, complete the form above, and our partners at the Indian River County Tax Collector’s office will be in contact with you by phone or email within 7-10 business days to process your order and complete payment. You can also visit your local tax collector’s office, DMV or private license plate agency to purchase your plate in person.
Can I customize my U plate?
Yes! Plates can be personalized with your initials, class year, or any other sign of ’Canes pride up to five characters. You can check personalized plate availability here.
Can I purchase a plate outside of my vehicle registration renewal period?
Yes, however, you will be responsible for registration fees associated with your vehicle registration renewal at the time of purchase and then again at the your time of renewal. We encourage you to contact your local Tax Collector’s Office or DMV to better understand the fees associated with specialty plates in your county.
Can I gift a U plate?
Yes, but it won’t be a surprise. Only the registered vehicle owner can complete the purchase of a plate. However, Florida has authorized the issuance of specialty license plate gift certificates. The program allows anyone to purchase a specialty license plate as a gift for a motor vehicle registrant. Learn more here.
