A Legacy of Excellence

The University of Miami legacy program recognizes the commitment of alumni who support and encourage their children or grandchildren to consider the University for college. 

Legacy families are a valued part of the Hurricane tradition and a shining example of pride for our alumni community.

Legacy students who are admitted to the University of Miami are entitled to the following benefits as new students.

Events

Early Move-In

A bonus of being a first-year legacy student living on campus is priority fall move-in, which allows you to beat the rush. Please note that you will be assigned a specific move-in time, which must be adhered to for you and all legacy families to enjoy the best, most efficient experience.

Legacy Welcome Celebration

Incoming legacy families are invited to a special annual reception hosted in the fall by the Office of Engagement as an official welcome to campus. It is an honor and great pleasure to congratulate and welcome our newest legacy families to the U!

Graduating Legacy Reception

The annual spring Graduating Legacy reception allows legacy parent(s)/grandparent(s) the opportunity to present their graduating legacy student with an official University legacy stole to wear during commencement.

Legacy Scholarship Program

Each year, the Office of Financial Aid selects an incoming first-year/transfer student to receive a modest renewable legacy scholarship. Eligibility is automatic for any legacy student who applies for admission and qualifies for financial aid.

Interested applicants should complete the undergraduate application for admission to the University of Miami, ensure their legacy status is tracked by the Office of Engagement through the official online form, and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) through the federal processor, with the University (school code 001536) listed as a recipient of the results. The recipient of the legacy scholarship is notified over the summer of their selection by a representative of the Alumni Association.
