The Black Alumni Society is proud to offer a variety of leadership and volunteer experiences. Whether you live in South Florida or across the nation, we hope you’ll share your time and talents!
By joining our Executive Board, you’ll have the chance to shape activities and initiatives that have a direct impact on the lives of black students and alumni.
You can also participate in other University of Miami Alumni Association (UMAA) programs, including Alumni Weekend and Homecoming, Young Alumni initiatives, Class and Affinity Reunion Programs, Regional ’Canes Communities, Alumni Career Resources and Services, and Annual Giving volunteer opportunities. Click here for more information on volunteer opportunities. Volunteer submissions are routed to the appropriate school, college, or division for follow up.
For Winston Warrior, service is at the core of what it means to be a Miami Hurricane. “I’m the definition of a ’Cane—a complete individual who is giving back to my community,” says the marketing executive and musician who has served on the University of Miami Alumni Association Board of Directors since 2009. “UM has made me the person I am today—successful, well-rounded, prepared to go after my dreams and weather the unexpected challenges in life, and welcoming to all cultures…a true citizen of the world.”
A native of Atlanta, Warrior was a member of the ’90s all-male breakout group Lo’ Profile. He then placed his music on pause while building a career as a corporate marketing executive at Cox Enterprises, where he received two Telly Awards and a Gold Award at the Fourth Annual Service Industry Advertising Awards. Warrior returned to music in 2011 with the release of his debut album, Lifeology 101, followed by Lifeology 101…Back 2 School in 2012. As founder and principal of Vintage Consulting and Entertainment, Warrior develops his own R&B musical brand while also helping other artists, media personalities, online radio stations, and entrepreneurs reach their professional goals.
In addition to his leadership roles with the UM Alumni Association as regional director, director, and member of various sub-committees, Warrior is a member of the board of directors for the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications, Inc., and is an active participant of the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA).
